L’Oréal and Texen partner on 100% recycled PP caps

L’Oréal and packaging maker Texen have joined forces to develop a new generation of caps made from 100% recycled polypropylene (rPP) for the beauty giant’s Biotherm brand.

The move forms part of L’Oréal’s drive to reduce the environmental footprint of its packaging.

According to Texen, the caps can be adapted to different shapes of jar for skin care formulas under the blue beauty player, including Cera Repair and Blue Therapy.

Foam Cycle receives patent for system to recycle polystyrene packaging

Foam Cycle, Augusta, New Jersey, a manufacturer of packaging recycling systems, was recently issued a Utility Patent by the United States Patent and Trademark Office for “method and system of recycling polystyrene waste.”

BASF develops label adhesives that do not interfere with paper recycling

According to BASF, the new adhesives, Acronal RCF 3705 and Acronal RCF 3706, are designed to be easily removed early in the recycling process for paperboard and cardboard streams. Both adhesives have been certified by the German research and service institute, Papiertechnische Stiftung (PTS), as not interfering with the recycling of transport boxes. 

Uwe Düsterwald, project manager of sustainability in adhesives at BASF, comments: “As we work to achieve worldwide climate neutrality, greater circularity and more effective recycling are a must.

A new ‘supercritical water’ approach to recycling plastic packaging waste

The approach was invented by Dr Bushra Al-Duri, from the University’s School of Chemical Engineering and further developed during a collaborative project with Stopford.

Soft plastics collected at Tesco to become bin liners in new recycling solution.

Tesco has rapidly scaled up the amount of soft plastic collection points and now collects plastic from customers for recycling in over 900 stores. It has collected over 850 tonnes of soft plastic to date and is working with partners on several recycling solutions.

25 to 30 tonnes per month of collected material, including bread bags, fruit, vegetable and salad packaging, is currently being sent to Berry’s state of the art recycling facility in Heanor, Derbyshire.

SABIC, GUALAPACK AND ELLA’S KITCHEN COLLABORATE TO LAUNCH BABY FOOD CAP MADE WITH ADVANCED RECYCLED PLASTICS

  • The cap is part of a new collaboration between Ella’s Kitchen, the UK’s number 1 baby food brand; SABIC, a global leader in the chemicals industry, and Gualapack, a world leader in pre-made flexible packaging solutions.
  • The collaboration demonstrates the high added value of the recycled content in food-contact packaging via advanced recycling solutions so that the industry can continue to increase the availability of these materials for different applications.

PepsiCo to trial recycled packaging for Walkers crisps

A PepsiCo spokesperson told letsrecycle.com that moving to mono-materials would make their crisp packets “easier to recycle”.

The company called on the government to speed up its timeline for flexible plastic like crisp packets to be mandated as part of kerbside recycling, saying they should be collected along with the rest of the core list of materials from 2023.

COVERIS LAUNCHES FULLY RECYCLABLE RICE PACKS FOR ALDI

Previously packed in a non-recyclable, OPP to PE mixed laminate, Aldi has switched to Coveris’ fully recyclable MonoFlexE monomaterial PE to PE laminate packaging for their own-brand Worldwide Foods 1kg basmati rice and 1kg brown rice SKUs. The move to MonoFlexE will enable circa. 30 tonnes of film to enter the soft plastic recycling stream annually. The MonoFlexE packaging launched in January 2022 for 50% of the two SKUs, with the remaining 50% to switch throughout January and February.

Kao Collects Used Cosmetics Bottles for Recycling

Kao Corporation is implementing field testing aimed at recycling used cosmetics bottles that have been collected, and transforming them back into new bottles.
 
The goal of the project is to achieve material recycling of cosmetics bottles that are made from plastic, and eventually realize plastic circularity in society.
