According to government research, some 93% of all tea bags are now biodegradable and almost 97% of coffee pods. The coffee pods and tea bags will result in 88% more compost on an annual basis, the organisation said. Earlier advice to simply chuck pods and bags in the bin because it wasn’t clear to consumers if they were biodegradable or not is now obsolete, Lisanne Evers, director of Koffie & Thee Nederland, said.

As part of TotaEnergies’ RE:clic portfolio, the RE:newable polymer will be sourced directly from the company’s biorefinery in La Mède, France. Its reported virgin-like qualities are thought to allow for carbon reductions in the production of packaging without sacrificing quality, and the material is warranted under the ISCC PLUS scheme.

Pearlfisher worked with McDonald's to develop recognisable graphics that easily communicate what menu item the packaging contains.
For some products, like the Big Mac, Pearlfisher created an illustration that is a direct interpretation of the food, while other graphics were informed by the item's most significant ingredients.

The Cheeseburger wrapper now has a single, dripping yellow line across it to represent cheese, the Egg McMuffin a single yellow circle to indicate a yolk, while the Fillet-O-Fish is covered with turquoise waves.
