A Cradle-to-Cradle certification has been awarded to Tipa’s compostable and recyclable packaging

21 Mar 2024
PC Correspondent

The company, which is considered a global leader in compostable packaging solutions, has created a plastic-free, compostable and recyclable packaging tray. Tipa have manufactured this tray line from natural rice waste, such as rice by-products, and this material is called paddy straw. Normally, the ingredients for paddy straw are disposed of and during this process they are burned, which is a large contribution to air pollution. Instead of causing this harm to the environment, Tipa chose to take this bio-waste material and repurpose it into packaging that has many benefits.

Findings from a survey Vegware conducted across the industry in June and July this year revealed that more than one in two people need help understanding what the plastic ban means for their business.

Nearly one in four (23%) of respondents said they have already stopped using single-use plastic, while 30% of people questioned said they are still determining when they will switch to compliant items in England and Wales.

Now a key player in custom-made premium cardboard packaging (paper carrier bags, folding cartons and rigid boxes), the company founded in Germany in 1855 had a purely family destiny until it was acquired in 2016 by vph GmbH & Co, a major German paper merchant and member of the IGEPA Group. Since then, Rissmann has worked to consolidate its market position with a focus on automation and sustainability, resulting in rapid sales growth to EUR 60 million in 2022, almost doubling the 2019 figure.
