There are approximately 30 billion square meters of packaging tape worldwide, and the numbers are growing with the expansion of e-commerce. The market is currently dominated by plastic tape, constituting 80% of all packaging tape. However, there exists a more sustainable alternative in the form of paper tape, which paves the way for a plastic-free future for packaging. Ahlstrom is a key player in the packaging tape industry and has excellent know-how in fiber-based solutions.

UFlex has entered into a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Amplus Phoenix to source renewable power under a group captive power policy. The plant will provide solar power to UFlex’s packaging films manufacturing plant in Dharwad, Karnataka.  

In line with UFlex's goal of being net zero by 2035, or earlier, this move will strategically reduce UFlex’s carbon emissions by approximately 19000 tons of CO2 equivalent. 

The BPI certification confirms that Melitta’s cone coffee filters are crafted using materials that are compostable in commercial facilities that accept compostable products. This allows coffee lovers to enjoy their favourite brew while actively participating in efforts to reduce waste and protect the environment.

Coveris’ MonoFlex Thermoform films deliver a recyclable solution by utilising high-performance monomaterials. This facilitates the transition from non-recyclable, mixed-material thermoforming substrates, resulting in a reduction in carbon footprint.

IMA is participating in the Bio-LUSH sustainability initiative, focusing on extracting high-quality fibers from overlooked European plant sources like forest residues, marine plants, and weeds. This addresses the increasing need to utilize underutilized biomass feedstocks for sustainable fiber extraction, which finds application in eco-friendly products such as textiles, food packaging, and reinforced composites.

Following on the heels of an informative 2023 series that delved into the concept of packaging EPR, the upcoming 2024 season will focus on the implementation of state programs, covering topics such as producer responsibility organization (PRO) membership, reporting requirements, needs assessments, and insights from previously implemented programs in Europe and Canada.
