That means all the supermarket’s porridge oat products are now free of plastic packaging, including its Everyday Essentials, Organic and Scottish Porridge Oats.

The latest move on its Everyday Essentials Porridge Oats is expected to save around 57 tonnes of plastic annually.

It forms part of the supermarket’s target to reduce plastic packaging by 50% by 2025 and follows a switch to 100% recyclable cardboard packaging on all own-brand porridge pots last year.

Berry Global has launched a rectangular bottle made with up to 100% recycled HDPE for beauty, home, and personal care applications.

The US-based packaging manufacturer said the 250 ml bottle is also fully recyclable provided the ‘appropriate collection schemes exist’. Its neck is suitable for a variety of caps and closures and its rectangular bottle shape allows for more efficient stacking, minimising wasted space on shelf and during transportation and storage.
