McDonald’s Qatar has shifted from using plastic to sustainably sourced materials for packaging, utensils, and toys.

In line with the Qatar National Vision 2030’s goal of transforming society to be more sustainable, McDonald’s Qatar is one of the first in the quick service restaurant (QSR) industry to follow this aim.

Following this move, customers will have sustainable packaging and utensils originating from the GCC.

This initiative was launched in August and will be implemented in all restaurants by the beginning of 2025.

Barcelona bio-based packaging startup B’ZEOS has closed its seed round. 

B'ZEOS offers sustainable, home-compostable, and bio-digestible packaging solutions made from seaweed extracts to combat plastic pollution.

The packaging is fully compatible with existing packaging production lines. 

Seaweed’s rapid growth rate, ability to sequester CO2, and lack of dependence on land or fresh water, without releasing microplastics, make it an ideal raw material for sustainable packaging. 

Movopack, a company providing eCommerce platforms with circular and sustainable packaging, has raised £2 million seed funding to launch in the UK via a partnership with Royal Mail.

The company’s first expansion outside of Italy aims to help tackle a growing packaging waste crisis, where an estimated 1.7 billion pieces of plastic are discarded weekly. 

A bespoke packaging solution from Berry Global is helping Finnish dairy pioneer Valio to meet its commitment to reduce plastic usage by 15% in its single-use, single-serve packaging by 2026.

As part of this, Valio’s popular range of PROfeel® protein puddings are being switched to a custom-designed version of Berry’s CombiLight™pot.

This partnership represents a step forward in advancing packaging sustainability, combining Amcor’s expertise in innovative packaging with Kolon’s high-polymer manufacturing technology.

The collaboration focuses on technological exploration of chemically recycled PET (crPET) and polyethylene furanoate (PEF) materials. Kolon is pioneering an advanced recycling process to produce new PET from post-consumer bottles, fibers and flexible packaging. Using crPET supports Amcor’s commitment to integrating 30% post-consumer recycled (PCR) materials by 2030.
