Solvay Launches New Ultra-High Barrier PVDC Coating Solution for More Sustainable Pharmaceutical Blister Films

Solvay, a global market leader in specialty materials, has introduced Diofan® Ultra736, a new polyvinylidene chloride (PVDC) coating solution with ultra-high water vapor barrier that allows carbon footprint reduction for pharmaceutical blister films. As an aqueous dispersion, Diofan® Ultra736 meets regulatory requirements for direct pharmaceutical contact and supports the design of sustainable films with thinner coating designs.

Reduces cardboard consumption by shifting to horizontal stretch hood packaging

When Proslat inaugurated its newly constructed production facilities in Quebec, it could also take advantage of a fully automated packaging line. In connection with the construction, Proslat installed a RoRo StretchPack® solution for horizontal stretch hood packaging of the cabinets. It didn’t just automate the packaging process, it also improved packaging quality while reducing cardboard consumption.

A squeezy mayonnaise bottle, colourful chocolate wrappers, and a ready meals range for kids are among the finalists of The Grocer’s inaugural packaging awards.

The shortlist is now online, forming the second tranche of The Grocer’s New Product & Packaging Awards.

Featuring 25 entrants, it comprises Label of the Year, Pack Design of the Year, Paper Pack of the Year, and Sustainable Pack of the Year awards for Recyclability and Optimisation – with powerhouse brands such as Hellmann’s and Quality Street competing with exciting challengers like Moju and Milliways.

SAYSO Unveils New Sustainable Packaging And New Cocktails

The packaging redesign follows a successful retail expansion across 36 premium specialty stores and boutiques nationwide, and is a result of the brand’s commitment to offering a more eco-friendly product at an even more affordable price point.

Starting in June, SAYSO will replace its current box packaging with pouches made from post-consumer recycled materials, which will be available for purchase on the brand’s website. As a result of this packaging redesign, consumers will enjoy a lower price point of $16 for eight cocktail tea bags, down from the previous price of $24.

A major step forward for the cosmetic industry as Dow launches two new sustainable SURLYN™ grades for perfume and cosmetic packaging

These new grades offer a significant moment for cosmetic industry packaging. The new SURLYN™ grades will enable beauty brands and manufacturers to create sustainable and high-quality cosmetic packaging that stands out on the shelves.

SURLYN™ CIR are ionomers produced from mixed plastic waste and SURLYN™ REN are ionomers produced from bio-waste such as used cooking oil (UCO). Both grades made using these alternative feedstocks continue to deliver the properties that give the unique look, feel and performance that the SURLYN™ material is known for.

TSC, P&G, Burt’s Bees, Colgate-Palmolive and More Form Recycling Coalition

The Sustainability Consortium (TSC), alongside P&G, Burt’s Bees, Colgate-Palmolive, GSK, Sustainable Packaging Coalition, The Recycling Partnership, Balcones Resources, University of Arkansas, and Arizona State University have formed a new coalition to accelerate progress on creating resources to recycle small format packaging and other materials through science-based, collective action projects. 

This is the first coalition of its kind to include CPG companies, non-profits and universities.

Absolut launches first-ever commercially available paper bottles

Absolut Vodka is embarking on a three-month test for its single-mould paper bottle – sold in British supermarket chain, Tesco – a significant milestone on its journey to create a 100 per cent bio-based bottle and reduce its CO2 emissions.

The paper bottle initiative is part of a wider collaboration with Paboco (the Paper Bottle Company) and their community of global brands, The Coca-Cola Company, Carlsberg, P&G and L’Oréal – to work collectively to help the drinks and packaging industries push the boundaries for sustainable packaging.
