Krones’ revolutionary bottle design can be used to make containers that are sustainable and weigh very little, but its advantages are also apparent during the bottle production and processing stages. The bottles have excellent stackability even without the stabilising effect of nitrogen pressurisation, with a filled topload of up to 40 kilograms.

The University of Adelaide’s Professor Shizhang Qiao, Chair of Nanotechnology, and Director, Centre for Materials in Energy and Catalysis, at the School of Chemical Engineering, led the team which published their findings in the journal Science Advances.

“We have upcycled polyethylene plastic waste into ethylene and propionic acid with high selectivity using atomically dispersed metal catalysts,” said Professor Qiao.

“An oxidation-coupled room-temperature photocatalysis method was used to convert the waste into valuable products with high selectivity.

The Romanian DRS system uses a software solution from Sensoneo, a technology company based in Slovakia. The software forms the backbone of the entire system, says Sensoneo, as it integrates all stakeholders and gathers data from all sources within the process chain. Deposit Return Schemes increase the purity of material collected, leading to materials’ circularity and reduction of CO2 emissions. The Romanian scheme will cover plastic, glass, and metal beverage containers ranging from 0.1 to 3 Liters. The deposit per bottle will be 0.5 Romanian lei (approximately 0.1 €).

It provides an offsite solution to solve the pallet stability issues that cause goods to get damaged in transit, costing companies thousands of pounds in lost sales every year.

The Innovation Centre provides a facility that is designed to replicate its customers’ packaging operations and in-transit conditions without disrupting their day-to-day operations.

Lindum Packaging said early customer trials have delivered ‘excellent results’.

Following a pilot started in 2021 on the Quartz Xtra product bottles, TotalEnergies Lubrifiants is now applying the process of incorporating 50% PCR high-density polyethylene (HDPE) to a larger scale. From September 2023 onwards, all premium range bottles produced in France and Belgium, recognizable by their platinum color, are being made notably from TotalEnergies rPE6314, a ready-to-use polyethylene compound.

Berry Global has achieved a significant milestone in the packaging of hazardous liquids through its advanced technical and manufacturing capabilities. The company has successfully launched 20 and 25-liter containers that incorporate 35% recycled materials, earning them UN Approval for the safe transportation of hazardous substances for five out of six assessed liquid models.

In addition to the existing UN approval for water, these newly introduced containers have obtained approval for wetting solution, acetic acid, white spirit, and N-butyl acetate.
