Set to drive a significant increase in the state’s PET recycling capacity, the plant will be built in an industrial precinct on Horsburgh Drive, with construction planned to start in early 2022 and finish in 2023.

It is expected to create more than 100 local jobs during the construction phase and 45 permanent roles once it’s complete. The capital expenditure for the project will be around $50 million. 

For CPGs hoping to launch new liquid products into industries like cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and household chemicals and cleaners, highly customized or short runs have always been severely limited by cost and implementation times. Traditional customization methods made it unprofitable to release small batches.

Happier Beauty, a British eco-friendly dental brand is developing a refillable toothpaste dispenser with biodegradable refill capsules after receiving a Smart Innovate grant of £150,000 ($202,925). 
 
The brand is on a mission to tackle the tons of plastic waste produced by regular toothpaste pumps and tubes by developing a new toothpaste dispenser that eliminates single-use plastic tubes or pumps.

As many of you are aware, PET beverage containers are often wrapped with PET-G (or sometimes polyvinyl chloride aka PVC) shrink-sleeve labels. The problem is that the labels are contaminants in the recycling process. They have a density higher than water and can’t be separated from PET flakes during the sink-float separation step of the recycling process. Thus, they contaminate the recycled PET stream and reduce the quality of recycled PET (rPET).

A move by a Canadian chocolate maker to produce packaging for blind and partially sighted people is one of several campaigns this year by companies trying to make their products more accessible to people with disabilities (PWD).

Purdys Chcolatier created a holiday box of chocolates this Christmas with both a braille label and a braille legend for the chocolates inside.

"When it first launched online and in select shops, it sold out within a matter of hours," Julia Cho, the brand's marketing manager, said from its Vancouver factory.

Rise Above
The photograph of the AirPods on the box lid is embossed, which is a technique that (we believe) Apple first introduced on the iPhone 6 ’s packaging as a ghosted outline of that product. On the AirPods’ packaging, it’s hardly noticeable until one runs their hand across the otherwise unobstructed white surface. Apple has raised the surface just the right amount, to give it a characteristic that puts the product forward. You can tell what it is by touch alone.
