One such customer is a global wine company. We were already supplying them with two different adhesive grades from our BAMFutura range for two different functions and they wanted to consolidate to one. When we were approached about finding a single adhesive that would work for both functions, we were more than happy to take up the challenge.

The Solution

At this time, the client was using our BAMFutura 1 & BAMFutura 12 and after careful consideration of their requirements, our experts recommended BAMFutura 42.

Some plastic food and beverage containers still contain bisphenol A (BPA), which can mimic the hormone oestrogen, and researchers from the American Chemical Society (ACS) have reported that, in mice, BPA can activate an immune response that persists for at least three generations.

Although experts say that small amounts of BPA detected in foods are unlikely to cause problems to health, some are concerned that constant low-level exposures could have long-term health effects, especially for developing foetuses, infants and children.

A novel completely recyclable and fully biodegradable plastic packaging solution which could be used in the pharmaceutical industry has been developed.

After initial testing to create environmentally friendly packaging, researchers used a biodegradable plastic additive which they combined with sugarcane to make a ‘green plastic’.

When processed correctly, sugarcane can be converted into a commercially material which is both CO2 neutral and recyclable. The material is also as equally robust as traditional petroleum plastic.

If finalised, the cost of packaging of all materials including food, agriculture, fertilizer, clothes and all other items would rise significantly. The increase in the minimum thickness of the packaging material would increase the cost of packaged products and hence, lead to a further escalation in their cost.

Plastic manufacturers have raised objections with the government on the proposal.

ALPLA and Fortiflex first collaborated in 2017 in the wake of Hurricane Maria. ALPLA was able to get the power supply at its production plant in Guayama, Puerto Rico, back up and running quickly after the damage caused by the storm – unlike Fortiflex. ‘We were originally only meant to handle some of Fortiflex’s production temporarily,’ explains Richard Lisch, Regional Manager with ALPLA Caribe, ‘but a partnership that worked well developed between us, and we then made it official with our strategic alliance.’
