It combines fast, high-quality operation with maximum flexibility and uptime. Apart from producing premium quality D-ZIP bags, this easy-to-use machine can produce more than 10 different bag styles for a wide variety of applications such as candy, nuts, frozen fruits and grated cheese.

The GEA SmartPacker CX400 D-Zip design reduces the amount of plastic required for the zipper by approximately 15 percent by eliminating the zipper-material in the cross seal. Additional plastic waste is avoided given no punching is required in making the zipper.

Emballator Innovation Center, with the same desire on reducing food waste, got involved in the project during 2021 and have since then worked with migration tests of the label.

“Since it’s ink in the label it’s important that it doesn’t transfer any chemicals to the meat. We had to modify the tests to make it fit the reality, so it was quite tricky”, says Christian Olsson, Material Specialist at Emballator Innovation Center.

Creative agency Hell Yeah! has created a new look squeezy bottle for sustainable condiment brand Rubies in the Rubble’s flagship ketchup product.

The redesign, which is on shelf now, aims to premiumise the brand, enhance taste appeal and stand out in an incredibly competitive category.

Rubies in the Rubble produces delicious ketchups, mayos and relishes using surplus cosmetically imperfect ingredients, which would otherwise have gone to waste.

Pallets are strategically thin yet sturdy and strong wooden structures that provide a base for loading goods onto transport vehicles as well as maintaining the stack integrity in transit.

During World War II (1939-1945), armies required a system for quickly transporting large quantities of weapons and supplies to troops on the front lines which led to the innovation of modern-day pallets.

Extracts from MEP Christine Schneider and Secretary General of APEAL Alexis Van Maercke on food waste in EU.

The numbers are appalling around 88 million tonnes of food ends up in waste in the EU every year at an estimated cost of €143 billion.  We throw out 180 kilograms of food per person and even 50 per cent of healthy and edible food ends up in the garbage bin in households, stores, restaurants, and at other points on the food supply chain.
