Active packaging increases the shelf life of food products. We learnt that in part I of this series of blogs (link previous blog here). We talked about Scavengers, compounds that absorb ethylene, moisture and oxygen released by food within the food packaging that deteriorates the food faster if not controlled. 
In this blog, we will talk about Emitters. Emitters work in ways opposite to the functioning of scavengers; they diffuse from the packaging to lessen negative effects of reactions from microbial growth, oxidation and ripening.

Berry Global says it is seeing increasing interest in its recently launched Reusable Cup range from companies in the HoReCa (Hotels, Restaurants and Catering) sector seeking to replace single-use packaging with high-functioning alternatives.

Ideal for on-site and takeaway, the range has now been further enhanced with the addition to its selection of reusable lids of a new multi-purpose sip lid designed for optimal use with a straw.

Johannes Schick Elected as Chairman of Aluminium Deutschland’s Tubes, Cans, and Impact Extruded Parts Division

Aluminium Deutschland (AD) is pleased to announce the election of Johannes Schick, CEO of the Linhardt Group, as the new Chairman of its Tubes, Cans, and Impact Extruded Parts Division. Schick assumed the role at the beginning of 2025 and will serve a two-year term.

He succeeds Clemens Behrenbruch, Managing Director of Alltub Germany, who has led the division with dedication and expertise. Under the leadership of Mr. Behrenbruch, the division has navigated key industry developments and strengthened its position within the aluminum packaging sector.

Coles adopts VektroPack recyclable paper-based packaging

The move to replace traditional plastic based flexible film with VektroPack’s High Barrier Paper Flex product aligns with VektroPack’s commitment to sustainability, and will play a big part in helping brands meet APCO’s 2025 national packaging targets, the company says. The shift to paper-based film will remove plastic from the recycling stream, and facilitate kerbside recycling of the material by end users.

Termotécnica presents packaging solution to support Brazil’s grape exports to China

Termotécnica, one of the largest manufacturers of EPS packaging in Latin America, has highlighted the role post-harvest technology will play the developing fresh table grape trade between Brazil and China. 

Authorities form Brazil and China signed a phytosanitary protocol allowing for the export of fresh grapes from Brazil to China in November 

Eduardo Brandão, executive director of the Brazilian Association of Exporters of Fruit and Derivatives (Abrafrutas), said while it was important for Brazil to seek new export markets, logistics could be a challenge.

SABIC, Lamb Weston and OPACKGROUP come together to create sustainable packaging made with bio-renewable polyethylene

SABIC, a global leader in the chemical industry, has joined forces with Lamb Weston, a major global brand owner and producer of frozen potato products, in a closed-loop process designed to create low-weight sustainable packaging bags made with a thin coextrusion film structure.  At least 60% of the packaging is made with polymer using bio-feedstock from used cooking oil (UCO).
