Used to package FONTE’s Oat Arabic Bread, the bags make use of two food-contact, certified circular polyethylene resin grades from SABIC’s TRUCIRCLE portfolio and are produced by Napco National, a vertically integrated manufacturer of flexible film and packaging products in Saudi Arabia.

Italian cookie brand Togo, once a household name known for its seductive 90s advertisements, has undergone a remarkable transformation. Recognizing the need to adapt to modern tastes and aesthetics, Togo enlisted the expertise of Italian design agency Marimo for a comprehensive redesign. This overhaul, recently celebrated with Dieline’s prestigious 2024 Redesign of The Year award, marks a pivotal moment for the brand as it bridges its cherished heritage with a contemporary visual identity.

To give an impetus to the diversification of the jute industry, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) Friday extended the norms for mandatory packaging of 100% food grains and 20% sugar in diversified jute bags for the the Jute Year 2023-24 (July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024)
 

The ‘premium quality’ packaging contains 50% recycled plastic and meets stringent food contact requirements.

Launched in the UK and Ireland for PepsiCo snack brand, Sunbites, the packaging is made by recycling plastic waste into food grade packaging material. This is done using an advanced recycling process, a complementary approach to mechanical recycling, which enables the recycled materials to satisfy the demanding EU regulatory requirements for applications such as food contact packaging, contact sensitive and medical devices.

Many single-use plastics, including some products that have been labelled as compostable, recycled, and biodegradable will be banned.

Plastic plates, bowls and trays are not banned but restricted.

The ban also covers expanded polystyrene cups and extruded polystyrene foam cups and food containers, although not polystyrene material.

Rebecca Pow, environment minister, said the government has already implemented bans on straws, stirrers and cotton buds, as well as rolling out charges for carrier bags and an industry tax on large plastic packaging imports.

This joint project focuses on the development and in-market testing of ReZorce, Zotefoams’ mono-material barrier packaging substrate, specifically tailored for beverage carton applications.

Refresco, the world’s largest independent beverage solutions provider for leading retailers and A-brands with production in Europe, North America and Australia, and Zotefoams signed the joint development agreement, with a scope to develop ReZorce beverage cartons up to and including in-market trials for a major European retailer.

An illegal worker running a company specialising in seafood trade has been arrested in Saudi Arabia for falsifying the expiry dates of products, among a slew of other charges.

The Ministry of Commerce has arrested the owner for violating the anti-commercial fraud system, falsifying the expiry dates of imported fish and shrimp products, packing and wrapping them inside containers bearing new dates and with the allegation of promoting the product as one that has been 'produced locally' with the aim of selling it to consumers.

Applications range from protein pods, instant coffee packs, and pre-portioned infant formula, to encapsulants and nutraceuticals.
