Coca-Cola has announced it is temporarily removing all labels from Sprite and Sprite Zero on-the-go bottles in a limited trial of “label-less” packaging.

The pilot will see labels replaced with an embossed logo on the front of the pack, with laser-engraved product and nutritional information will appear on the back of pack.

The soft drinks giant said that although existing labels are fully recyclable, removing them simplifies the recycling process.

Food companies are using bright colours and cartoon characters in an “unethical” effort to manipulate children into wanting the sweets and crisps they make, a report has claimed.

Bite Back, a campaign group that is part of the chef Jamie Oliver’s empire, asked nutrition experts to analyse 262 sweet food products sold in the UK with packaging likely to appeal to children made by the 10 biggest food companies.

Oliver has accused food manufacturers of deliberately using packaging that is designed to “capture young minds” in order to sell more junk food.

UK foodservice specialist Fresh Direct has launched new, plastic-free packaging for its best-selling avocado twin-pack.

Fresh Direct said it marked the first time that the new packaging, developed by its avocado supply partner Westfalia Fruit, had been used in foodservice.

It replaces the current plastic packaging with a paper-based pack, which is made from actively managed, FSC-approved sources, where forests are regenerated as trees are replanted and is fully recyclable.

The launch also marks the introduction of SIG DomeMini to the Southeast Asian market. The transition to a bottle-shaped carton pack is said to provide a better plastic-to-product ratio and stand out to consumers with a “sleek and distinctive design.”

The company shares in a press statement that the sturdy eco-designed packaging offers robust protection while opening impactful visual possibilities. It features sleeve openings and high-quality printing area. The packaging’s highly resistant design is reportedly the result of research and development geared to the needs of processors, retailers and consumers alike.

Among other West African nations like Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Burkina Faso, and Nigeria, Senegal plays a significant role in the global cashew export industry. Established and emerging brands in Senegal aspire to transform raw cashews into higher-value products, fostering innovation for export and local consumption. The potential range of products includes cashew jams, juices, bars, and flour, contributing to the flourishing cashew boom in the region.

The violation of Section 17(1)(a) of BIS Act 2016 is punishable with imprisonment up to two years or a fine of minimum Rs. 2,00,000 or both as per BIS Act 2016. Action is being initiated to file a case in the court of law for the offence.

Following the success of their first two lines, Line 1 installed in 2014 and Line 2 in 2020, the cooperative has opted once again for the Contipure AseptBloc DN for its new Line 3.
