Publication 'Transition Time! A circular economy for plastics'

Seven design and engineering graduates from Elisava, Barcelona School of Design and Engineering, Spain, had a challenging final year project to present this summer: to design sustainable packaging solutions with added value to consumers, the environment and the society as a whole. For the fourth consecutive year, the students received mentorship and assessment from Quadpack’s professionals.

DOM-TITAN is the leading Slovenian company in the field of mechanical security protection of doors and locks for furniture. They were looking for a suitable partner for the development of ecological packaging. The idea of ​​replacing styrofoam material was born on the initiative of Tomaž Kališnik, an employee of DOM-TITAN in the development and technology department. For implementation, they turned to the sustainable packaging strategists of DS Smith.

With an aim to provide sustainable product-packaging solutions, a Hyderabad-based startup is all set to launch a range of eco-friendly compostable bags. SpruceGel is going to provide greener alternatives to carry bags, shopping bags, grocery bags, apparel bags as well as disposable pouches. Speaking to The New Indian Express, Dr Premnath Basa who is a materials scientist and has co-founded the company said that their organisation comprises of a team of entrepreneurs sharing the common goal of manufacturing 'green and sustainable products' for packaging purposes.

Eco for Life bottles are made 100% from plants and filled with finest spring water  bottled at source in locations across the UK.

• The Bottles are very robust and refillable multiple times and have similar integrity on the shelf as PET bottles.

• Our bottles will not start to biodegrade until they are put in to the correct environment such as composting with the moisture heat and chemical chain reaction that takes place in composting facilities so you can refill them multiple times.

Located in Ala in the province of Trento, Transcend’s 5,000 sqm Italian facility will have a production capacity of two billion straws per year (almost 40 million per week) and will be operated in partnership with ICIS Group, a producer of printed cartons and multipack clusters.

Transcend straws are manufactured using FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified paper and meet the high EU standards for direct contact with food and drink.

We have announced that we have reached a key milestone on our journey to a World Without Waste as we reduced plastic use by almost 5,000 tonnes a year since 2019.

This move has been facilitated through the completion of a €13m investment in our plant at Knockmore Hill, Lisburn, Co. Antrim. The investment combined with other measures across our packs is a further sign of the Coca-Cola system’s commitment to creating a true circular economy.
