With the recent news that Oregon and Maine became the first states in the U.S. to adopt an Extended Producer Responsibility Law for packaging (meaning the states will charge packaging producers for the cost of managing packaging material waste), LiquiGlide is helping brands create sustainable packaging and reduce their carbon footprint as well.

The recyclable packaging will be used on all of OBI’s domestic canned salmon brands and export products, the company said. Its recyclable components include the cans and lids, can labels, trays, and shrink overwrap, the company said in a press release.

The packaging components also utilize recycled content when possible, so OBI’s trays are made from 100 percent recycled content and the cans and lids are made from 35 percent recycled content.

Platina 250, 300 & 350 Lamitubes have been recognized by Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR), USA as meeting or exceeding the strict APR HDPE critical guidance criteria on recyclability.

Both Vicco Labs and EPL teams have worked together to do the required testing and ensure quality protocols are met, before the products are launched in the market.

Implementing a February 2020 law, the government published a list of about 30 fruits and vegetables that will have to be sold without plastic packaging from January 1. The list includes leeks, aubergines and round tomatoes as well as apples, bananas and oranges.

"We use an outrageous amount of single-use plastic in our daily lives. The circular economy law aims at cutting back the use of throwaway plastic and boost its substitution by other materials or reusable and recyclable packaging," the ministry said in a statement.

“We are in a unique position to make sustainable packaging accessible and economically feasible due to economies of scale,” Delivery Hero Director of Sustainability, CSR and Safety Jeffrey Oatham told PYMNTS in an interview. “The Sustainable Packaging Program is an effective and scalable way to reduce plastic waste and carbon emissions produced by the delivery industry.”
