L'Oréal is calling its latest innovation the "bottle of the future."

The company has developed the first cosmetic bottle made from entirely recycled plastic using Carbios’ enzymatic technology.

Biotherm will be the first to use this technology for its skincare products—and the first bottles will be put into production in 2025.

Sabic’s bio-based polypropylene (PP) resin, part of its TRUCIRCLE portfolio, will be used for producing the jars of Beiersdorf’s Nivea Naturally Good day and night face creams. The new Nivea packaging will be phased in at point-of-sale outlets worldwide from June 2021 onwards and make a major contribution to help Beiersdorf reduce its use of fossil-based virgin PP.

Starting in June, the face-care products of Nivea Naturally Good will be on-shelf in about than 30 countries with more environmentally supportive cosmetic packaging.

The idea was begun in late 2021 when Beiersdorf announced working to produce more sustainable cosmetics packaging using certified renewable polypropylene (PP) from global petrochemicals manufacturer SABIC’s TRUCIRCLE portfolio to replace fossil-based virgin plastic.

The company has launched a refillable version of its T22 jar, with recyclable and recycled material options also a possibility, along with an airless jar for preserving natural creams. Faca has also added the mould number 3000 to its workshop and mould manufacturing, which the company claims demonstrates its constant investment in R&D in injection and blow-moulding.
