Ball Corporation, a leading global provider of infinitely recyclable aluminum beverage packaging, and aluminum recycler and supplier Novelis, announced that the Ball Aluminum Cup™ is now composed of 90% recycled content. This evolution builds on the Ball Aluminum Cup's infinite recyclability by lowering its carbon footprint, therefore further positioning the product as a sustainable solution for packaging waste challenges across the sports and entertainment, food service, retail and beverage industries.

UHT milk will be launched this spring in SIG’s combiblocMidi 1,000ml carton pack with SIGNATURE 100 packaging material, as Olympia Dairy partners with SIG to play a pioneering role in sustainability within the European dairy industry.

Industrial and consumer goods companies Beiersdorf, Chevron, Henkel and WM will join the fund as founding limited partners, a roster that testifies to the fund’s broad reach in the packaging ecosystem. Leveraging its two-decade track record of spurring transformation among more than 50 global corporate partners, Emerald will seek investments in sectors across all stages of the circular economy ranging from raw materials to plastics recycling. The fund will target investments in the following six categories:

Innovation is essential to achieving goals and customers’ growing expectation to buy sustainable/sustainably packaged products. Cue the Circular Connector: Launched on the 7th of April, Walmart’s Circular Connector has been designed as an online tool to bridge the gap between companies searching for more sustainable packaging ideas and those that offer them.

When re-designing two tubes of its Almond collection, L’Occitane en Provence was seeking a resource-friendly solution and teamed up with cosmetic tubes specialist Albéa and polymer supplier LyondellBasell.

Molecular recycling
Both tubes were made from LyondellBasell’s CirculenRevive polymers, which are produced using an advanced molecular recycling process to convert plastic waste into feedstock to produce new polymers.

Sustainability in action

Kraft Heinz Co. told non-profit group As You Sow the company will set a virgin plastic reduction goal within a year. In response, the non-profit group has agreed to withdraw a shareholder proposal seeking a report on how the company would reduce the use of plastic packaging.

In response to a request for comment, Kraft Heinz issued a statement by Jonah Smith, global lead of environmental social governance at the company.

Tesco has rapidly scaled up the amount of soft plastic collection points and now collects plastic from customers for recycling in over 900 stores. It has collected over 850 tonnes of soft plastic to date and is working with partners on several recycling solutions.

25 to 30 tonnes per month of collected material, including bread bags, fruit, vegetable and salad packaging, is currently being sent to Berry’s state of the art recycling facility in Heanor, Derbyshire.

Dermalogica has chosen Aptar’s fully recyclable mono-material pump Future for their upcoming skincare launch. While traditional pumps may contain different materials, including metal components that can in some cases impact the recycling process, the Future pump is made from PE only, which aligns with the most common materials used to make skincare bottles - PE and PET, making the complete packaging, including pump and bottle, more efficiently recycled.
