UHT milk will be launched this spring in SIG’s combiblocMidi 1,000ml carton pack with SIGNATURE 100 packaging material, as Olympia Dairy partners with SIG to play a pioneering role in sustainability within the European dairy industry.

DHL Supply Chain launches AI-based optimized packaging system

The AI-powered OptiCarton system helps to optimize the filling of boxes from a pre-configured set of cartons and can even suggest splitting an order into several consignments to make individual shipments more cost-effective or to reduce their carbon footprint.


With OptiCarton, DHL is not only responding to the current shortage in cardboard boxes and packaging materials in the market, but initial pilots also indicate that the solution offers customers additional benefits in the shape of shipping-cost savings of up to 35%, and with an average saving of 15%.

Coles to remove plastic measuring scoops from Coles Brand laundry powders

Coles’ Together to Zero waste ambition sees the supermarket continue to work with industry partners, suppliers, and customers to reduce waste and unnecessary plastics. 

Scoops from Coles Tropical Paradise and Coles Ultra Original and Sensitive laundry powders will be removed from April 1.

The new scoopless laundry powders will be specially marked with ‘Reducing our Impact’, with the packaging featuring a light green lid, ensuring customers can easily spot the packs.

Innovative coffee lid made with PulPac’s Dry Molded Fiber technology in Swedish fast food chain MAX Burgers

Liplid's uniqe lid, adapted to PulPac's innovative Dry Molded Fiber technology, enables MAX Burgers to replace plastic coffee lids in restaurants this year. 

Every year, more than 300 billion plastic lids – 1.5 million tons of plastic – are produced. Many of them end up as litter in the world’s oceans. A Swedish collaboration between three innovative companies at the forefront of sustainability - PulPac, Liplid and MAX Burgers - is now leading the way towards replacing the traditional plastic lid with a sustainable fiber-based alternative.

Smurfit Kappa adds the missing ingredient to sustainable recipe box

Mindful Chef experienced a huge increase in demand for its home-delivered recipe kits during the pandemic. The company, which has been climate neutral since 2020, is committed to making every aspect of its business as sustainable as possible.

Its previous recipe box consisted of insulation pouches combined with gel ice packs which, whilst effective at keeping the contents cool, were not easily recycled.

The Click-to-Lock Pods Box is a paper-based alternative for plastic boxes for laundry pods and is said to reduce C02 emissions by 32% during production. Smurfit Kappa added that the format is tamper-proof and 100% recyclable and biodegradable.
