Apart from being compostable themselves, labels produced from materials coated with the new adhesive can allow all of a product’s packaging, consisting of paper or board for example, to be composted. Its low application weight also makes certain of reliable processing and trouble-free converting.

MPK Health Department director Azmi Muji said health inspectors advised traders to seal food packaging with adhesive tape or use thermal heat for plastic clam shells.

He said first-time offenders would be issued a warning and food items sealed with staples would be seized, while repeat offenders would be issued compounds.

Azmi said staples could pose a health risk if swallowed.

The novel Free-Lock label by Schreiner MediPharm consists of two components: a bottom label and a top label.

According to the company, the bottom label layer has a speciality microfibre surface texture that can be applied to the empty, non-refrigerated container at room temperature. This container can then be filled with the active agreement, such as medications for cell and gene therapies, and immediately cooled down for storage in dry ice at -78oC or liquid nitrogen at -196oC.
