Switching to Carbon Neutral Carton Morrison ditches Plastic Packaging for its Milk Packaging

Morrisons has become the first supermarket to scrap plastic milk cartons and replace them with its own-brand fresh milk in plant-based cardboard cartons. Nine types of Morrisons fresh milk will be sold in carbon-neutral Tetra Pak cartons, saving around 100 tonnes of plastic each year. Fresh milk currently accounts for around 10 percent of all plastic packaging used in the UK, but the new Tetra Pak cartons will instead be made from plant-based paperboard. The new cartons contain

Tetra Pak partners with leading beverage brands to launch the world’s first tethered caps on carton packages

Joining forces with leading beverage producers, Tetra Pak is launching tethered caps on carton packages. Marking a significant milestone in the company’s long-term work on design for recycling, five new tethered cap solutions are currently being introduced across Ireland, the Baltics , Spain and Germany in different product categories – a market first for these geographies. As part of a wider programme, this development paves the way for Europe-based customers to stay ahead of schedule and meet the Single Use Plastics (SUP) Directive coming into force by 2024.

Single-use consumer habits continue to pose a threat to the environment — particularly in the context of plastic packaging. According to the World Economic Forum, only 14% of plastic packaging is collected for recycling globally. Moreover, by 2050 the carbon footprint of plastics is expected to triple in size. Recognising this, companies are making a move towards sustainable packaging solutions. For instance, by 2030, L’Oréal Paris aims to reduce its carbon footprint by 50%.
