Sony to Develop Sustainable Paper Material "Original Blended Material" from bamboo, sugarcane and post-consumer recycled paper

Original Blended Material is a recyclable, durable and strong paper material that does not use any plastic. Sony has adopted this material for the packaging of WF-1000XM4 Truly Wireless Noise Canceling Headphones, which is uncolored to take advantage of the various shades of the material. Sony intends to adopt this material for the packaging of further select products.

Beverage Manufacturer to Incorporate Husks Into Shipping Materials

Coconut beverage maker Kokomio announced that it will process husks from its Mexico-grown coconuts into shipping materials for the transportation of the brand’s coconut beverage. The new initiative is expected to be in place by late spring 2021 in Kokomio’s Mexico City plant. The company says that this initiative moves it forward in its effort to develop products that use 100% of the coconut with zero waste.

Burger King Launches Sustainable Packaging Pilot Program

The guest packaging will be tested in 51 restaurants in Miami and utilizes alternative materials, such as: Frypods made with renewable unbleached virgin paperboard; cutlery made with cPLA, a plant-based plastic; and napkins made with 100% recycled fiber. The company will also test paper and plant-based straws along with strawless lids, which could potentially eliminate up to 500 million single-use plastic straws annually from participating US Burger King restaurants. This action alone would translate to the removal of 910 metric tons of greenhouse gasses per year.
