The fibre-based sustainable packaging is a USD 10-billion market, and HP’s first step into this industry was when it introduced its 3D printing-enabled molded fibre tooling solution. 

Polyplastics Co. Ltd., a leading global supplier of engineering thermoplastics, has developed 3D printing technology for the production of DURACON® polyoxymethylene (POM) products. The technology, known as Material Extrusion (MEX), delivers physical properties close to those of injection molded articles despite being 3D printed. Polyplastics will highlight the new 3D printing technology at the upcoming K 2022 exhibition (Hall 7A/B02), which runs from Oct 19-26 in Düsseldorf, Germany.

Described as “disruptive for the powder-bed fusion technology market,” a new eco-friendly polymer for 3D printing developed by Jabil Inc. reportedly delivers “strength, chemical resistance, and resilience in comparison to general-purpose nylon materials such as PA 12.”

Tom Baran and Matt Hirsch have developed a new technology that is poised to make an impact on the label and packaging industry. Originally established in 2015, their company, Fathom Optics, features a software platform that fits into standard design and prepress workflows.
