The new QR codes, created by Zappar and working with the RNIB (Royal National Institute of Blind People), can be detected by the free Zapvision app, supporting the estimated two million blind and partially sighted people in the UK to access product information.

They will be launching first on Persil’s plastic-free capsules and Ultimate Liquids ranges in the UK.

The technology works by adding additional markings around existing QR codes, improving the detectability.

SAVE FOOD members at Interpack:

A CLOSURE FIGHTING FOOD WASTE with London-based start-up Mimica.

Its founder, Solveiga Pakštaitė, primarily wanted to develop a bottle cap that would give people with impaired vision information about the shelf life of the product. As a rule, such info is only printed on the packaging and thus cannot be recognised by visually impaired people.

The programme features a discussion on stage with top speakers from all over the world as well as opportunities for networking. “Our new SeaGlass Collection reinforces our ethos of finding beauty in waste,” says Mercedes Landázuri, Ampacet Market Insight Manager. “The color palette showcases the luminous colors found in these treasures from the sea.”

These unique effects for PET enhance the shelf appeal of packaging and products without a mold change. As with other colored PET packaging, products made with SeaGlass can find a second life recycled into textile fibers. For example, 50 2-liter bottles can create one square yard of carpet fiber with fewer emissions than using virgin plastics.
