New films let produce &lsquobreathe&rsquo, extend shelf life, says innovia by lorraine heller, 28aug2008 a new range of &lsquobreathable&rsquo films can extend the shelf life of fresh produce by allowing the migration of gases through the packaging, according to its developer, ukbased innovia films. The biaxially oriented polypropylene bopp film works by allowing prepared produce to continue &lsquobreathing&rsquo after it is packed, said the firm. Propafresh p2g and propafresh p2gaf are permeable, noperforated films, which work by controlling the rate at which gases &ndash specifically oxygen and carbon dioxide &ndash migrate in and out of a pack through the film.
