OPERA modular labeller fully equipped with in-line quality control systems supplied to transatlantic customer Rust-Oleum, won over by the solution’s extreme reliability and output flexibility

Rust-Oleum, the leading producer of professional anti-rust and decorative spray devices on US and Canadian markets, has decided to employ Sacmi technology in the renewal of its production lines. Key factors behind the decision of the company (a first-time user of Sacmi solutions for this industry) include the outstanding flexibility of the plant engineering solutions developed by the Group’s Packaging Division and the excellence of the vision and quality control systems, which range from container positioning (patented Sacmi system) to application and checking of the label.

This American firm has been provided with an all-new OPERA 400 26T, a modular labeller with two different modules, one for the application of labels using roll-fed technology, the other for the application of self-adhesive labels. A highly efficient vision and quality control system – personalised to suit the customer’s specific needs – completes the order.

What makes this system so exceptional is its hard-wearing, compact structure, designed to ensure excellent reliability and performance whatever the manufacturing conditions. The two labelling stations ensure up to 21,000 applications an hour, while the entire quality control phase is handled by LVS (labelling vision system) units that position the container (using 6 video cameras) and inspect both label and nozzle (4 image acquisition devices).

The customer’s decision to invest was also greatly influenced by the modular configuration of the labeller: this allows, via a single passage through the machine, application of the main label on the can (roll-fed module) and the bar code (self-adhesive technology). The outcome is an efficient production process that fully guarantees output quality thanks to integration with label control and container orientation.

Moreover, Sacmi personnel have been working alongside the customer’s technical staff on the company’s premises to perfect personalised solutions that meet their exact requirements. Furthermore, long-lasting reliability and profitability is ensured not just by the adopted technical solutions but also by an extremely linear plant configuration which provides user- friendliness and easy access to essential machine parts.
