New F192 reader quickly reads up to 200 tags at distances of 15+ feet

TWINSBURG, OH – Pepperl+Fuchs is pleased to introduce its new long-range F192 reader. The F192 puts out the maximum power allowed by the FCC, 4W EIRP, making it ideal for reading tags at distances of more than 15 ft. The output power is adjustable to as low as 10 mW, so the F192 works equally well for short-read ranges. Power adjustability is especially important when operators want to read a specific RFID tag, not the tags located to the left, right, or behind it.

The F192 is a completely self-contained reader, with the antenna, amplifier, and reading electronics all in one. The advantage of this design is the absence of commercial-style coaxial cables. Coaxial cables typically allow no more than 30 ft. back to the main control system, and even then there may be voltage losses in the cable, resulting in poor read performance. The F192 uses industrial M12 connection cables (an industry standard), which allow operators to run more than 3200 ft. back to the main control system with no reader performance degradation.

The compact and robust housing of the F192 makes it ideal for harsh industrial environments. A solid cast aluminum base provides universal 100 mm x 100 mm industrial mounting support in addition to shielding against unwanted stray tags behind the reader. The unit can be used in ambient temperatures of up to 158 °F, making the F192 one of the highest-performing UHF readers in the industry.

All Pepperl+Fuchs read heads go back to the company’s IdentControl platform. This series of industrial network platforms allows the F192 reader to connect to the upper-level network of choice. For example, if operators want to connect the reader to a Siemens PLC using PROFINET or an Allen-Bradley PLC using EtherNet/IP, they can use Pepperl+Fuchs Ethernet controllers. (One-, two-, and four-channel controllers come in all-metal housings and are field mountable.) Operators can easily network together hundreds of RFID systems using these controllers.

An easy programming approach is the basis of the Pepperl+Fuchs UHF platform. Configuration can be done in the PLC, making product setup extremely easy. Difficulttounderstand UHF parameters are handled internally, so operators need only set the power, which adjusts the read range. Easy-to- use function blocks for Rockwell software and Siemens Step 7 are prewritten and ready to go – no pre-configuration of the read head is necessary. When a read is enabled, up to 200 tags can be read at one time, allowing for extreme data throughput.
