While in the past lightweight closures were developed for carbonated drinks and still water, the topic of weight reduction has meanwhile also trickled to the markets for juices, sport drinks and ice tea.
In addition to cost savings made possible by lighter closures, the mandate is also to preserve the socalled nonrenewable resources and reduce the greenhouse effect. In 2011, bericap already succeeded in converting a large portion of its drink closures to lightweight bottle necks.
