dec. 07, 2014 lbt  the sri lanka institute of packaging and its subsidiary unit, the packaging development centre hosted this year&39s world packaging organization annual events in colombo that included the board meeting, committee meetings, judging of world star competition for excellence in packaging, an international packaging congress and post congress tours from november 17 to 23, 2014.the meetings of the world packaging organisation wpo, world star judging and the world packaging congress were held at kingsbury hotel, janadhipathi mawatha, colombo 01.the sri lanka institute of packaging, established in 1975, is an industry association representing manufacturers, users and traders of packaging material as well as service providers to the packaging industry.the sri lanka institute of packaging is an active member of the asian packaging federation and the world packaging organization and two of the past presidents were elected as presidents and vice presidents of these prestigious regional and global organizations in the past.lanka star awards nightthe lanka star 2014 awards competition has been instituted by the sri lanka institute of packaging and the packaging development centre aimed at stimulating interest in improving packaging standards in sri lanka.success in securing a lanka star award qualifies the recipient, to participate in asia star and world star contests.the grand finale of the wpo events was the lanka star awards night held on friday, november 21, 2014 at the cinnamon lakeside hotel, colombo 02 from 7pm onwards for which the sri lankan packaging industry business community along with around 30 foreign delegates attending the world packaging organization events, participated.the world packaging congress was held on thursday, november 20, 2014 at the kingsbury hotel, colombo with resource persons  from australia, south africa, indonesia, india, turkey and sri lanka making presentations on topics related to the packaging industry.
