US-based apparel brand APIECE APART has announced that it will only use fully compostable packaging developed by Israeli manufacturer TIPA.

The brand will continue to ship all its products in TIPA’s fully compostable polybags as it expands operations to meet the growing demand.

Since 2020, Apiece Apart has been using TIPA’s polybags to package goods at factories to ship to its warehouses, e-commerce customers and retail stores.

The transition has eliminated 133,825 conventional plastic polybags to date.

Apiece Apart founders Laura Cramer and Starr Hout said: “Nearly fifteen years ago, we set out to create a foundational line of women’s clothing, but not at the expense of people or the environment.

“Sustainability is a journey, and our partnership with TIPA enables us to discontinue the use of harmful plastic packaging–just one small step in our ongoing sustainability efforts.”

TIPA’s fully compostable polybags are designed to safely degrade into organic matter at the end of their lifecycle. It also offers the same functionality as conventional plastic.

The switch to these bags is expected to prevent 180 billion polybags from entering the garbage disposal process each year.

TIPA CEO and co-founder Daphna Nissenbaum said: “We are delighted to continue the work we’ve done with Apiece Apart to reduce plastic waste from the retail side of the fashion industry and look forward to seeing even larger numbers of conventional plastic polybags replaced with our eco-friendly alternative.

“We greatly admire Apiece Apart’s commitment to a cleaner, safer and brighter future where fashion does not have to have negative repercussions for the planet.”

Last week, a survey commissioned by TIPA revealed that a majority of adults in the UK support replacing plastic packaging with compostable alternatives.

The data found that 85% of respondents would back a ban on conventional plastic packaging if compostable solutions were available.
