Sustainable packaging is here!

A new sustainable packaging flexible bag manufactured from eucalyptus tree has been added to their range.

Perfect Automation has expanded its packaging range, made from sustainable sources, including eucalyptus trees, which is fully home compostable at the end of its service life.

The pack comprises a bio-film called NatureFlex® which is created with wood-pulp from sustainably sourced eucalyptus plantations. For every tree used, another is planted in its place.

The sustainable packaging consists of a triple-layer structure made up of paper, metalised NatureFlex® and bio polymer sealant web. The design provides an excellent moisture and oxygen barrier that extends product shelf life to help both retailers and consumers minimise food waste.

The compostability of the pack is a further eco-bonus for consumers. This has been a breakthrough in compostable multi-layer film barrier laminates. It has attained Vincotte’s OK Compost Home and Seedling certification after achieving a high degree of compostability.

Working with our partners from Parkside, Mr Paul Lenihan, the New Business Development Manager, said: “Sustainability remains a hot topic of conversation within the packaging world. Consumers are demanding more environmentally friendly processes and retailers are responding by asking their supply chains to come up with innovative ways to save carbon and avoid end-of-life incineration and landfill.”

Mr Lenihan added: “Food manufacturers want sustainable packaging that addresses the needs of consumers and that fit with their natural organic ethos. Parkside has answered this demand. From a sustainability perspective, we have utilised sustainable materials to develop the pack instead of oil based polymers. In addition, the pack is fully compostable.”

Benefits Of Sustainable Packaging

This packaging offers quality packaging and benefits comparable to traditional packaging styles:

  • The graphic shelf appeal is excellent and matches standard high quality flexible packaging laminates to drive retail sales.
  • It offers oxygen and moisture barrier performance for extended product shelf life to minimise packed product waste and food waste.
  • Its lightweight flexible design offers a lower carbon footprint solution compared with heavier packaging formats.
  • Compostable flexible packaging is a credible alternative to landfill for non-recyclable packaging designs and environmentally sensitive brands.
