in the year of 1959, coors led to a revolution in the beverage industry with the launch of the recyclable twopiece aluminum can to swap the tin cans used at that time. at millercoors, they consider their packaging as an opportunity to provide great beer with minimum environmental impact. millercoors work along with their suppliers to create innovative to reduce the weight of the materials and remove unnecessary packaging in their beverage containers, in their operations, at retail as well as throughout their supply chain. millercoors goal 2015 is to lessen the overall yearly weight of all of their packaging throughout the supply chain at least by 2 percent, or 68 million pounds in packaging supplies. millercoors lessened the weight of their packaging materials by 0.66 percent, or 17.2 million pounds, by the end of 2011. that is equivalent to the weight of above 1 million full kegs of beer. innovative solutions to lessen paperboard in 2011, millercoors lessened their corrugated board and paperboard use by around 1.6 million pounds through the following new projects by standardizing their containers capable of holding sixpack bottle paperboard to a single design, millercoors lessened their 2011 paperboard usage by more than 1 million pounds. in the month october 2011, at their irwin dale brewery, they shifted from full cartons to trays for the distribution and manufacture of their 24ouncecan 12packs. in the span of just three months, they saved almost 560,000 pounds of corrugated paper. millercoors uses paperboard trays to distribute and manufacture their aluminium pints. in the month of november 2011, they lessened the height of the trays by onehalf inch. this resulted into saving an estimated 31,000 pounds of paperboard in the span of just two months. furthermore, in 2011, millercoors&rsquo engineers experimented on new lighter paperboard for their 12pack bottle containers. in february 2012, millercoors fully implemented the new containers and reduced their annual paperboard use by 4.2 million pounds. looking out for a lighter future when millercoors redesigned their blue moon bottles in order to use a smaller amount glass in 2009, they reduced our packaging by 4.8 million pounds on an annual basis. building on that success, in 2011, millercoors initiate to examine plastic bottles as an alternative to the glass bottles presently used for their 32 and 40ounce beverage containers. switching to plastic would save about 174 million pounds of packaging every year and also lead to result in 5,000 less delivery truck trips annually. along with this, using the plastic bottle would increase safety for their consumers, employees, distributors and retailers. reusable plastic in the distribution traditionally, millercoors used corrugated cardboard, plywood and lumber to protect and package their products throughout the rail and truck transportation from their breweries to their retailers. by working along with their distributors to substitute these disposable materials with reusable plastic, millercoors has save above 41,000 trees and keep an expected 17,000 tons of material keeping out of landfills annually. source of information httpswww.millercoors.comgreatbeergreatresponsibilityenvironmentalstewardship…
