It is the &lsquoflagbearer&rsquo of branded products and essential for distinguishing competing products. It can be influential in the purchasing choice of consumers. All the elements of the package design are dealt by structural packaging, except the graphic design of the product. They include packaging materials, function, performance and shapeform. It is unreasonable to separate the graphical and structural elements of the packaging. Moreover, when all elements are considered in the design process, the best results are achieved. Generic packaging is common among various brands to distinguish the graphic design of the label and the colour of the packaging materials at times. Some of the common generic packaging elements that are clear in their function and performance are cardboard boxes, bottle caps, and glass containers.

It is not seldom that brand managers are now seeking the use of structural packaging for distinguishing their products in the market. One of the trends noticed that continues to evolve in structural packaging design is green packaging. The green trend has reached structural packaging. However, in the product world, brand owners should beware of &ldquogreen washing&rdquo. Any disconnects in your overall brand, product and packaging message will be pointed out by consumers and customers, and thus, discontent may emerge. The packaging world commonly uses lifecycle analysis lca as a tool, which mainly establishes the reason for plastic being better than glass which is, in turn, better than paper and so on.

For a good purpose, it can give resourceful information about selecting preferred packaging solutions for products, even with a rudimentary level application. There are also innovative plastic packaging materials that are compostable, biodegradable and plant based renewable materials. However, the whole environmental story will not be made by just using a specific component. Every step, touch and technology is focused with a wholistic approach while being ecofriendly. Recycability and minimal packaging will be the continuous focus now and in the future, while creating good economic and environmental factors. These areas should remain the key influencers for packaging decisions. Source of information httpwww.bayly.com.auindex.phpnewsabouttheproductandindustrialdesignindustry…
