Sensei Farms reduces plastic by 90% with new packaging

By PC Correspondent on Sun, 02/02/2025 - 15:25

Sensei Farms says new packaging introduced across its line of leafy greens and salad mixes has a 90% reduction in plastic by weight compared to its previous clamshell.

The new design helps the company meet its sustainability goals while keeping the same functionality and food safety features of conventional clamshells, according to a news release.

"From seed to shelf, we strive for innovation at every stage of our products," said Jessica Vasisht, Sensei Farms senior vice president of sales and marketing. "This focus allowed us to create a better, more impactful package that embodies the superior quality of our produce, without compromise."

The company said the new eco-friendly packaging features 360 degrees of product visibility with its paperboard tray see-through base and branded side windows. Consumers can break down the packaging with its perforated panels and a removable liner keeps the paperboard clean for recycling. The packaging also features a “peel and reseal” closure.

"Eco-friendly solutions often come with a premium on price, so we knew that barrier to adoption had to be removed," Vasisht said. "This is a significant leap forward for our category and just the beginning of what Sensei Farms has planned."

Sensei Farms unveiled this new packaging at select Albertsons Cos. locations in the mid-Atlantic under the Acme and Safeway store banners and will also distribute to major grocers in the Hawaiian islands mid-third quarter this year, the release said.
