Riedel Ditches Metal Cans for Sustainable Carton Packs – A Big Win for the Planet

Riedel, the Netherlands’ leading juice brand, is making waves in the packaging world by swapping out metal cans for eco-friendly SIG carton packs in its Van de Boom syrup range. This isn’t just about packaging—it’s about reducing waste, cutting carbon footprints, and giving consumers a more sustainable choice.

Why the Change?

The new SIG Terra Forest-based polymer cartons are made from 95% renewable, forest-based materials. That means they’re better for the environment, lighter to transport, and easier to recycle. Plus, these cartons cut carbon emissions by up to 43% compared to standard packaging, thanks to an innovative approach that replaces fossil-based plastics with materials derived from tall oil, a byproduct of paper manufacturing.

Still the Same Great Syrup – Just Smarter Packaging

Switching to carton packs isn’t the only exciting update—Riedel is also improving its syrup formula. The new syrups have an impressive 85% fruit content (the highest in the Dutch market) and no added sugars, making them a healthier option. And that’s not all—Riedel is also introducing green iced tea syrups in two fruity flavors, with less sugar and fewer calories than traditional options.

A History of Sustainable Moves

This isn’t Riedel’s first step toward eco-friendly packaging. Back in 2018, it moved its CoolBest and Appelsientje juice brands into SIG cartons. Then, in 2022, it ditched small PET bottles in favor of SIG Smile carton packs, slashing CO₂ emissions by 75%.

The Future of Packaging is Here

Riedel’s switch to SIG carton packs is part of a bigger movement—one where brands take responsibility for reducing waste and making smarter packaging choices. It’s a win for the planet and a step toward a future where sustainable packaging is the norm, not the exception.

So next time you pick up a Van de Boom syrup, you’re not just choosing great taste—you’re choosing a greener future.
