Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), the operator of the world's largest integrated refining and petrochemical complex, has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first Indian company to chemically recycle plastic waste-based pyrolysis oil into International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC)-Plus certified Circular Polymers. This innovation underscores RIL's commitment to reducing plastic waste and supporting a Circular Economy in India.

RIL recently shipped its first batch of ISCC-Plus certified Circular Polymers, branded as CircuRepol™ (Polypropylene) and CircuRelene™ (Polyethylene). By utilizing advanced technology to convert plastic waste into these special Circular Polymers, RIL is making a positive environmental impact and leading the way in sustainable practices.

RIL’s dedication to sustainability is highlighted by its use of chemical recycling, which helps create a Circular Economy. The company aims to find smart solutions to reduce plastic waste and inspire others to join the journey towards a greener future. CircuRepol™ and CircuRelene™ are designed to set a standard in Circular Economy practices.

RIL's Jamnagar refinery has become the first to receive the ISCC-Plus certification, validating its capability to produce Circular Polymers through chemical recycling. This certification ensures traceability and adherence to strict guidelines in the production of Circular Polymers.

RIL has developed technology that converts various types of plastic waste, including single-use and multi-layered plastics, into pyrolysis oil. The company is collaborating with trusted partners to scale up the production of this oil and transform it into Circular Polymers. Chemical recycling offers numerous benefits, including turning plastic waste into high-quality materials suitable for applications such as food-contact packaging.
