kozhikode the order of eating food while on a journey and tossing the package in the dustbin might become a thing of the past as you can eat the pack, too. at least, that is what some industry experts are saying about the fast changing food packaging technologies world over.&nbspgoing by the changing times, kerala market, which is witnessing largescale sprouting of supply chains along with food processing businesses, is opening its doors for new and advanced food packaging technology and promoters. stating that nothing will succeed without innovative packaging, experts call for specific packaging of valueadded products of coconut, spices, pineapple etc for promotion in outside markets.in the recently concluded &lsquorising kerala&rsquo entrepreneurship meet held in kozhikode, promoters had explained about the huge potential of advanced food packaging technology in selling the products as well as generating job opportunities.xenos aseptic bottling systems, a new zealandbased company, presented specific packaging technology for tender coconut water, neera and pineapple juice in the meet, which would help preserve the products for up to six months without adding any kind of preservatives. &ldquothe concept of buying has changed. the current situation is such that nothing will succeed without innovative packaging. if there is nothing new in your product, you are gone. in this case, packaging using advanced technology plays a key role as it helps in preserving the products longer,&rdquo says subin jose, area sales manager of xenos aseptic bottling systems.some of the moving trends in food packaging includes conventional to trendy, meeting global standards, demanding customer, more mechanisation with less manual labour among other things.c s purushotaman, who made a presentation titled &lsquonew insight into food packaging techniques&rsquo in the &lsquorising kerala&rsquo meet, says that the need of the hour is active and smart packaging. &ldquoactive packaging would help extend shelf life, monitor freshness, display information on quality, improve safety, and improve convenience while smart packaging ensures appropriate distribution of product and educate the consumer on the condition of the product,&rdquo he said. he said the use of new technology and equipment would result in mass production, standardisation, reduction in variations and cost.&nbsp
