according to a report of the canadian plastics industry association cpia, in 2011, canada recycled about 600 million pounds of postconsumer plastics. this figure is up 24 from the previous year. the cpia is an ontario based association. there was an astounding increase of 70 for nonbottle rigid 21 million kg, as well as a 19 increase for bottles 29.3 million kg and a reasonable increase of 1 for outer wrap and plastic bags 272 000 kg. according to the cpia, in total, over 268.5 million kg material was collected for recycling. in the report, the increase is being credited to more collection activity. along with this, more companies offering recycling information has surged the recycling figures. the sharp growth, which is recorded for the nonbottle rigid plastic stream, is partially due to more municipalities increasing collection to all plastic containers from just bottles. carol hochu is the ceo and president of the cpia. carol mentions that they are happy for more than a half of canadianproduced recycled plastic were recycled in canada. according to her, offering simpler collection practices for customers to recycle all plastic containers are helping to grow plastic recycling. according to the cpia, there is also increase in demand for superior nonbottle rigid plastic, including pet thermoforms and polypropylene and polyethylene containers and massive rigid items as recycled bottle supplies continue to be firm. on the other hand, the association guesstimates that bag and film recycling capacity in canada is at present stuck at 38 of utmost utilization. source of information httpwww.scrapmonster.comnewscanadasplasticsrecyclingrises24yyin2011cpia17812
