in addition to bans on smoking in public places, trans fats and jumbo sodas, new york city mayor michael bloomberg now want to pass a citywide ban on plasticfoam food packaging that is used in cups and trays, and takeout boxes. if passed, the ban would affect bodegas, restaurants and public schools. in the city of chicago, there is no such ban. however, a few years ago, the measure was proposed and failed. many environmental and activist groups, like no foam chicago, are still demanding it. mayor bloomberg talked about this case for new york in his final state of the city address. the mayor warned of its environmental impact and evaluated the dangers of such packaging materials in comparison to lead paint, in his speech. bloomberg said plastic foam is environmentally harmful, and that may be hazardous to people&rsquos health. furthermore, it is costing taxpayer&rsquos money, and it is possible to do without it. plastic foam is something that should go the way of lead paint. he further said that we can live without it, and we may live longer without it, and the coffee cup and the doggie bag will survive just fine. however, small businesses are saying such a ban would cause an unfair burden on them. the city of highland park started a polystyrene foam recycling program in partnership with swalco, in the year of 2011. many people are also recycling those pesky packaging peanuts. to locate a dropoff center, you can visit the plastic loose fill council at www.loosefillpackaging.com. source of information httpvernonhills.patch.comarticlesnycmayorbloombergwantstobanplasticfoamfoodpackingshouldwe
