Toy manufacturer Mattel has issued an apology after a misprint on the packaging of its ‘Wicked’ dolls directed consumers to an adult website.
Social media users noticed that Mattel’s latest collection mistakenly listed a porn website on the packaging, instead of a nearly identical URL meant to promote the musical fantasy film starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande.
After such posts went viral, Mattel apologised for the “unfortunate error” and said that immediate action will be taken to remedy it.
“Mattel was made aware of a misprint on the packaging of the Mattel Wicked collection dolls, primarily sold in the US, which intended to direct consumers to the official WickedMovie.com landing page. We deeply regret this unfortunate error and are taking immediate action to remedy this," Mattel said in a statement, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"Parents are advised that the misprinted, incorrect website is not appropriate for children. Consumers who already have the product are advised to discard the product packaging or obscure the link and may contact Mattel Customer Service for further information,” it added.
The Mattel line featuring the incorrect website address is now being removed from shelves at Walmart, Macy’s, Kohl’s, Best Buy, DSW, Amazon, and other retailers in the US.
