mann packing co. has decided to replace its packaging, which will use less plastic than the previous packaging. the black vegetable platter of mann packing co. will be replaced by a clear tray. along with using less plastic, this will show more stored items than previous packaging. the vegetable platter is labeled as vegetable tray. elena hernandez, marketing coordinator at salinas that is calif.based mann packing, mentioned that this packaging uses lighter material than the previous packing. in this new packaging, new graphics of the vegetables will appear along the cover&rsquos edge. in the news release, director of marketing and innovation, christine keller said that the new tray consists 38 less packaging than the previous tray of mann packing co. furthermore, it uses 50 less packaging than other trays, which are available in the market. a customer can see 50 more product than previous tray, after removing the solid black packaging. this change is the outcome of internal research done by mann packing co. this research showed that 92 of customers didn&rsquot use the black trays for serving, which is recommended by instructions. when customers were made aware that this will result in increasing landfill, the same number of customers mentioned that it will be great to see the change in packaging. according to mann packing estimation, if the similar change is adopted across the fresh produce industry, landfills could be spared from more than 2 million pounds of waste plastic. source of information httpwww.thepacker.comfruitvegetablenewsmannpackinguseslessplasticinvegetabl…
