Innovia Films, a leader in material science and a major producer of BOPP films, has unveiled a new white ultra low-density film, VL40, specifically designed for ice cream flow wrap packaging. This innovative film is now available from Innovia's site in Płock, Poland.

The VL40 film is engineered to perform efficiently on high-speed flow wrap machines used by ice cream manufacturers across Europe. It is easily printable and sealable, making it a versatile choice for packaging ice cream products.

“Nothing screams summer more than ice cream, and we are proud to offer our new VL40 white cavitated film, an excellent partner for one of our favourite summer treats," said Alasdair McEwen, head of the European Packaging Division at Innovia. "A typical way to package ice cream is using high-speed flow wrap packaging that preserves the product’s quality until consumption."

Developed and successfully trialled at the Innovia Films site in Płock, the new film grade is a high-gloss white coextruded OPP film with a wide heat seal range. "We made significant changes to our extrusion lines to deliver this specific film grade, ideal for ice cream sandwiches and popsicles. The team did a great job in a very short time,” commented Piotr Piasny, General Manager at Innovia Films in Płock.

The VL40 film boasts high puncture resistance, crucial for preserving the product and preventing food waste. Its printability allows for superior graphic appeal, and it provides an easy-to-open package. The film is largely unaffected by climatic conditions but should not be stored at temperatures above 104°F (40°C). Under suitable storage conditions, it can be stored for six months without risk of deterioration.
