the dupont awards for packaging innovation commemorate revolutionary achievements in the sector of consumer product packaging, with a focus on sustainability and innovation, as well as waste and cost reduction. many of the 2012 victors used plastics to create packaging that allows consumers to do more &hellip with less. the winners use minimum material, generate less waste, weigh less, utilize less energy, and produce less emission&mdashdepending on the packaging. here are few examples of this year&rsquos winners, some of which are already offered on store shelves. airopack&reg aerosol dispenser instead of a propellant, this plastic &ldquoaerosol can&rdquo utilizes regular air to dispense hairspray, shaving creams, and other products&mdasheven salad dressings and cheese spreads. the dispenser&rsquos pressurecontrol tool allows the utmost amount of product to be dispensed, so slight is wasted. according to the manufacturer, the airopack&reg uses 23 less energy and emits 68 less co2 than old styled aerosol cans. because it&rsquos made with clear pet plastic, consumers can clearly see the product&mdashand it is received in facilities that recycle pet containers. weight watchers&reg smart ones&reg these freezing entrees feature an innovative tray that is made with a hybrid material that merges calcium carbonate, which is a naturally occurring mineral, with polypropylene plastic. the material takes considerably less energy to produce than many other materials and is lighter, resulting in reducing the energy spent in transport. along with this, the new tray is stronger than previous tray designs, making it less probable to break during food preparation. kraft yes pack kraft explains that yes stands for &ldquoyield, ease, and sustainability&rdquo. these are the things which the company kept in mind while designing this modern packaging for its salad dressings for foodservice operations. the bendable plastic pouch is collapsible to assist dispense more of the dressing, and the smaller gush helps in more precise pouring. these both help to reduce product waste. according to kraft, these are lightweight pouches, which require 50 percent less energy to produce and result in 70 percent fewer co2 emissions from transfer than traditional salad dressing bottles. incycle&reg insulating containers these foam cups and trays, which are made with recycled pet plastic, offer unique insulating properties. a specific manufacturing process makes a very lightweight material which reduces thermal conductivity. this is to keep the trays for hot food cool to the touch, even after food is heated in an oven. on the other hand, the &ldquocold&rdquo cups help to keep beverages cold. both incycle&reg products are greatly lighter than comparable solid cups and trays. when it comes to buying everyday products, many of us look beyond cost, convenience, and safety to sustainability as we seek to do more with less. as these examples exemplify, thoughtfully designed packaging can play a very crucial and helpful role in offering products that trim down our impact on the environment. source of information httpplasticsmakeitpossible.com201207dupontawards2012innovativeplasticpackagingallowsustodomorewithless
