japan &ndash a japanese pharmaceutical brand owner has developed a single pack for irregularlyshaped packages for both distribution and pointofsale display, gaining benefits of 40 transport efficiency, material and co2 emission reduction.the original packaging presented a problem both during transportation and pointofsale display a round product, in a plastic clamshell with a cardboard backing, for liquid toilet bowl cleaner refills from osakaheadquartered kobayashi pharmaceutical co ltd. because of its irregular shape, it occupied considerable space making it difficult to stack products vertically without movement during distribution. short of using a display hookrack, it was also difficult to display the refill packs on retail shelves.according to shigetaka yamamoto, of kobayashi&rsquos manufacturing headquarters technological innovation depatrment, &ldquoit was necessary to improve the transport efficiency.&rdquo the solution was the yamamoto special package ysp separatable carton box &ndash a compact package that fully utilizes packaging capacity, cuts material use by 37 and increases yield transportation efficiency and lowers the overall co2 emissions.as an individual item, each carton is a long rectangularshaped containing six refill units vertically. depending on the transport vehicle&rsquos storage area and shape, and the capacity of the retail shelves, the cartons can be joined together horizontally, and stacked on top each other, allowing greater flexibility in transport and retail configuration, making it easier to adapt to a range of spatial environments.with this new carton&rsquos tipprevention mechanism, product protection is also guaranteed &ldquothe front perforation opening also functions as a stopper and has the ability to prevent the refill products from falling over,&rdquo explained yamamoto. &ldquobecause the side perforation of the opening is tshaped, loss of buckling strength is also minimized.&rdquocontributed by stuart hoggard&nbsp
