the australia based subsidiary of pharmaceutical giant glaxosmithkline gsk has declared it will shut the tablet packaging line at its facility in boronia, victoria. this measure will be taken as part of a shift in importance towards the technologyintensive side of its regional operations. the company said that the shutting down of the plant will result in 120 job redundancies. troy webb, who is the company&39s site director for the boronia facility, said the job redundancies will not come into effect instantly as the procedure will take some time to &quotaccount for monitoring requirements of affected markets&quot. he further mentioned that they will support their impacted employees throughout the procedure. while this will not be easy, he said that they must focus on their strengths. they have a strong potential in higher technology production and will build this side of the business. the boronia production facility is famous for its rotacaps technology, which is a distribution tool for respiratory medicines that the organization is investing in to support patients in promising markets. it also manufactures &ldquoblow fill seal&rdquo packages, which is a high quality container for sterile liquid medicines. in spite of continuing challenges in the functioning environment in australia, their vision is to be the gsk centre of excellence universally for providing low cost unit dose, blow load seal and dry powder breathing medicines, webb further mentioned. currently, the gsk site in boronia employs about 363 people. source of information httpwww.packagingnews.com.aunewsgsktakeshardmedicinetotabletpackagingline
