Students gathered in the gymnasium to package meals for the program.

Eisenhower has been involved with the program since 2015.

“Our annual food packaging event is such a beloved tradition for Helping Hands and student council at Eisenhower,” said Stephanie Rovi, Helping Hands co-advisor. “Our students are the driving force in bringing it here each year through their fundraising efforts. We are so excited and proud to be able to give them the opportunity to participate in an effort that’s impact is felt beyond our local communities of Bridgewater and Raritan. This is just another example of how a group of people, no matter their age, can come together to do some good.”

Gretchen Alvarez, Helping Hands co-advisor, said some sixth graders this year researched real-world problems, one of them being the hunger crisis.

“The fact that they were able to become familiar with a topic that may not directly impact them and then have this opportunity with Rise Against Hunger to be part of the solution is powerful,” she said. “I hope it shows them that no matter your age, there is always something you can do to help.”

Despite a hiatus due to COVID and a virtual event in 2021, the students have packed more than 100,000 meals since 2015.
