DS Group’s Packaging unit, in collaboration with Uma Polymers, has unveiled two pioneering projects aimed at promoting sustainability and community development: Project Mogra Kala and Project Craft Kala. These initiatives underscore the Group’s commitment to environmental stewardship and social responsibility as it approaches its 95th anniversary.

Project Mogra Kala: Circular Economy at its Best

Project Mogra Kala is a testament to the circular economy, where waste is not discarded but repurposed into valuable products. The project focuses on transforming laminate waste into sustainable goods. Uma Polymers plays a crucial role in this process by sorting and cleaning the waste before spinning it into yarn using traditional Charkha methods. The yarn is then woven into fabric on handlooms, dyed, printed, or embroidered to create intricately designed ropes. These ropes are further crafted into high-quality products such as bags, doormats, and stationery items.

Beyond its environmental benefits, Project Mogra Kala empowers rural women by providing vocational training, enabling them to become self-sufficient entrepreneurs. This initiative promotes economic independence while preserving traditional handicrafts, creating a safe and inclusive workspace for women to thrive and contribute to their communities.

Project Craft Kala: Innovative Solutions for Waste Management

In addition to Project Mogra Kala, DS Group’s packaging unit is launching Project Craft Kala, which focuses on the innovative reuse of laminate waste. This project involves shredding discarded laminate waste to create compressed boards, which are then transformed into practical products like school benches, chairs, tables, and flower pots.

Project Craft Kala addresses the critical issue of waste management while providing valuable products for educational and community use. It highlights DS Group’s dedication to cost-efficiency and sustainable solutions.

DS Group's Legacy and Future Aspirations

As DS Group celebrates its 95th anniversary, these initiatives reflect the company’s enduring commitment to its core values. From its humble beginnings in Chandni Chowk in 1929 to its current status as a multi-business conglomerate, the Group continues to prioritize sustainability and innovation.

Looking ahead, DS Group’s packaging division plans to further evolve its sustainability efforts, focusing on the development of innovative packaging materials derived from renewable resources. This includes exploring plant-based polymers, recycled content, advanced recycling technologies, and closed-loop systems. Additionally, the Group is investing in smart packaging solutions that offer product traceability, anti-counterfeiting measures, and interactive elements to enhance consumer engagement and strengthen brand loyalty.

Strategic partnerships with material suppliers, converters, and recycling companies will be key to driving these advancements, ensuring a reliable supply chain and access to the latest technologies.

DS Group’s packaging initiatives are setting a new standard in the industry by turning waste into valuable products, empowering communities, and investing in future-focused technologies. As the company nears its centennial milestone, it remains committed to driving positive change and building a more sustainable future for all.
