the association of international metallizers, coaters and laminators aimcal bestowed its sustainability award on uflex ltd., noida, india, for a downgauged metallized laminate used by pepsico india holdings pvt. ltd. fritolay division.the downgauged laminate consists of 8micron biaxially oriented polypropylene bopprotogravure printing8micron lowdensity polyethylene ldpe8micron metallized biaxially oriented polyethylene terephthalate bopet18micron ldpe.it runs on vertical formfillseal vffs machines filling four flavors of lehar brand potato chips tangy tomato, spicy masala, simply salted and chatpateet chatka.it replaces a substantially thicker, heavier laminate of 12micron bopp10micron ldpe12micron metalized bopet20micron ldpe.the 23 percent source reduction achieved with the lighter, thinner film means lower transportation costs for inbound packaging materials and outbound product shipments and fewer material roll changes on the vffs equipment.the 8micron film offers the same dimensional stability and stiffness of standard 12 and 15micron bopp making it suitable for printing and lamination without any negative impact on handling or registration.
