a new jersey toy producer will pay about a quarter million dollars in fines for distributing deceivingly packaged craft items marketed to children in california. the announcement was made by the city attorney and district attorney. news details prosecutors claimed in the civil complaint that horizon group usa, inc.&rsquos &ldquodisney princess&rdquo jewellery making stuff were packed in the containers that were manufactured or filled as to help the perpetration of fraud, in disobedience of state consumer protection rules and regulations. bonnie dumanis, who is the district attorney, mentioned that the district attorney&rsquos consumer protection cell has a firm track record of assuring that corporations do not fake their services and goods. bonnie further mentioned that their office is proud to carry on partnering with the city attorney in situations where their combined resources protect the customers&rsquo hardearned money. without admitting wrongdoing, horizon assisted with prosecutors and stipulated to the entry of a judgment. judge judith f. hayes, who is the judge of san diego superior court, signed a stipulated final judgment which requires horizon to give penalties and costs totalling 225,000. the judgment bans horizon from committing alike violations in the future, as well. da dumanis said that the judgment isn&rsquot the largest. however, it&rsquos necessary and also serves as a warning to the organizations that there is a regulatory committee, which can hold them accountable for misleading business practices that violate the rules and regulations. the city attorney&rsquos office received a complaint from consumer about the &ldquodisney princess&rdquo jewellery making units from the concerned mother of a young girl. this girl had bought a unit with money she had saved up. when she unpacked the box that was containing items to make jewellery, she was dissatisfied to see that the half of the package was vacant. there was not a single way for the kid to know that there were also empty compartments in the kit, as stickers on the outside of the box completely hide the empty compartments and all the visible pockets had items within. the city attorney&rsquos consumer &amp environmental unit looked after the complaint and brought this action along with the san diego county district attorney&rsquos office. jan goldsmith, the city attorney, said that it is regrettable that a company would offer a product in a way that misleads children. jan also mentioned that their office will keep prosecuting unfair business practices that violate the state consumer laws. for over forty years, the san diego county district attorney&rsquos office has a unit for consumer protection. the unit dedicates their time to environmental and consumer protection cases, investigates and prosecutes unfair business practice, environmental and unlicensed activity, false advertising, and theft cases. the unit is financed and backed through prop 36, which authorizes regional government prosecutors to take a legal action on behalf of general public to impose unfair business competition laws. in this year, the consumer unit of da has worked on legal cases which resulted in above six million dollars in decisions against organizations that broke consumer law. that includes a 3 million judgment against tuna packing companies and a 2 million judgment against walmart. as people are getting ready for the busy shopping season, district attorney dumanis and city attorney goldsmith advise consumers to be aware and buy items with care. consumer tips and alerts can be found on the city attorney&39s website and on the da&39s consumer protection page. source of information httpwww.countynewscenter.comnewstoymakerpay225000deceptivepackaging
