Cosmetic industry sustainability driven by Total Energies Corbion and Sulapac

By PC Correspondent on Fri, 03/08/2024 - 09:31

The choice between biobased, biodegradable materials and recycled alternatives has thus far presented a dilemma. With Luminy® PLA bioplastics technology, this compromise is no longer necessary. Today, recycled biodegradable biopolymers, such as rPLA, stand as a commercially viable option, boasting a quality on par with virgin materials.

The collaboration between TotalEnergies Corbion and Sulapac marks a significant milestone in sustainable innovation. Sulapac integrates TotalEnergies Corbion‘s recycled biodegradable biopolymers into select material grades, ensuring the seamless incorporation of eco-conscious elements into cosmetic packaging. Moreover, Sulapac actively plans to contribute to the recycling initiative by collecting and delivering waste materials to TotalEnergies Corbion, thereby closing the loop and promoting the circular economy.

The demand for recycled content, especially in the cosmetic sector, one of Sulapac’s key customer segments, is growing rapidly while the global supply is still catching up. “We are extremely pleased about this collaboration between Sulapac and TotalEnergies Corbion as it allows us to serve our highend cosmetic customers with their requests for recycled content,“ says Suvi Haimi, CEO and Cofounder of Sulapac.

By leveraging the expertise of both companies, this partnership aims to empower cosmetic companies to reduce their carbon footprint without compromising on quality or performance. Through the adoption of biobased recycled biopolymers, the cosmetics industry can embrace a circular approach, fostering a more sustainable future for all.

"With our joint efforts, we are revolutionizing the cosmetic sector by offering a viable alternative that combines sustainability with high performance," said Thomas Philipon, CEO of TotalEnergies Corbion. "Together, we are paving the way for a greener, more resilient cosmetics industry." The collaboration between TotalEnergies Corbion and Sulapac represents a pivotal step towards a circular economy, demonstrating the potential for innovation and collaboration to drive positive change. As leaders in sustainable solutions, both companies are committed to driving the adoption of recycled biopolymers, setting a new standard for environmental stewardship within the cosmetic industry.
